MSI Mainboards !

Hi Lolo

Right from what i have read on the net , it seems as you said that the layout you have may be a standard layout for MSI boards . Could you possable tell me what is the respective voltages on the 2 vcc's pins on the board ?
Trying to determine if maybe both vcc's need to be connected together and linked to vcc on the bcusb board and then tested on either 3.3v or 5v.

Hi Demon,

you mean powering on the board and measuring what is on pin one and pin two with a voltmeter. That i could do, i have everything here. But the possibility with
both VCC´s connected i´ve already tried, with 3,3 and 5 v . Time after time i get angry about myself not taking notice of what i exactly wired when it showed up
the Winbond chip, coz that was probably the right way. Did you already contact the developer??
By the way where do you live on this small planet, coz maybe i could send yuo one of my msi boards for testing.... Greetings Lolo

I have had a word with the developer and he has said that he had both the VCC's on the board connected to the BCUSB VCC point, now he did not say if he had it on 3.3v or 5v but if you could try it with either setting and see what you get , we can take it from there.

I live in the UK , i am asking around to see if i can aquire one of these boards to test , shouldnt be too hard to get hold of one , would save you having to send anything, but thanks for offering.

No rush , i am at work at the moment , so only getting chance to look in quickly.

Hi D3mon, now it seems my blackcat is really gone dead, i can´t get a connection on usb any more. Tried already different ports/computers do you know a workaround, or do i have to send it back ??
thx Lolo

I had an issue similar at 1 point on my bcusb , if i removed the voltage jumper i got the blue led ,, but it seemed the at90usb chip itself had died. Now i had to get a replacement , i hope you do not have the same issue or you will have to contact the person you bought it from and see what they have to say.

Other option is if the chip is dead , and you have good soldering skills , you could remove and replace the chip with a new one

Hi, indeed when i remove the voltage jumper i got the blue led lit, so the main chip is okay, but the usb chip fails to work am i right here ??
By the way i was checking the X48c Bo9ard from MSI oce again, and found it working with DDR3 rams, astinished i laid back and thought fine now it is even not so bad that my
bcusb is maybe dead - lol.

Unfortunately , this looks like the main atmel chip is dead , same issue as what i had , so you have the 3 options , replace the chip yourself , get a replacement bcusb or get an NT which is more reliable and durable.

Good Morning to the UK, great news, i asked for a replacement @embeddedcomputers,net and they told me the bcusb is covered with a lifetume warranty, lika a Zippo (hehe)
I will send it back soon and wen the replacement arrives we can go on with the conversation on msi boards... have a nic time till then

Hi Lolo

That is excellent news , in the meantime while you are waiting for it to arrive , i will seek out an MSI board and see if i can find the solution to this issue.

Hi D3m0n, it took quite some time to get my blackcat serviced in the united states, now i have a new one, and exactly the same , i am stuck on JEDEC 00 0000 , and have tried to solder a new cable.
I took the above mentioned wiring once again and will report when i am lucky. Any hints by any user would be very appreciated, and i really know that this is possible with the msi boards but don´t
find the mistake myself. thx LoLo

Hi D3mOn,

now my blackcat was serviced, they just sent me a new one and that took quite a while coz of the long shipping ways, now i still have the same problem the cat shows JEDEC ID oo oooo, when i connect to an msi board, i tried now several ones, bt i guess still with a wrong connection. Additionally i found out the manufacturer of the onboard msi chip, which is mxic and i guess the size is 1024 kbytes. So to check if my connection is okay i hooked up a chip from mxic in my DIP8 connector, arranged connection switched then to the cable and started programming the flash, but when verify mode is turned on in the status screen i get a lots of errors. So my thought is about my connection-cable which must be soldered wrong. Please anybody who knows more - feel free to respond - thx ! ;-)

Hi D3mon, thanks for the fast answer, I tried to rip off the small label of the chip but there is nothing precise to see even whith a good looking glass. (my english is not the best)
I started a new thread in the msi-forum, maybe i find an answer there, and will report back when i know more.

Lolo , if you ask on the MSI forum , find out the name and size of the chip , as well as if the spi access is enabled on that specific board , it may be that they have killed access so the only option may be to lift the chip ,

Hi Daemon, it was now auite a while since i contacted MSI support, and i have come a lot further now. The MSI Support gave me the tipp to buy a measuring tool to check if the signals are going thru the right way. The tool is in my house now for 3 days and last night i found the time to resolder the cable, so that when i freshly connect the board to the blackcat and program the spi hex file it shows up with a very possible SPI Chip (Winbond 25wx080) the only problem that now persists is very slow programming with 3.3 v and with both voltages wrong data verification, which isn´t really good, what do you think daemon.

The MSI people told me that it should be possible to find a solution, and i am on the same opinion.

Greetings again Lolo

Hi Lolo
I have asked the developer about this , and he is going to look into it , he did mention the possability of GND connection being wrong and also that HOLD# may not be on high ,

Hi, I didn't know if I had to open a new thread about my problem or to use this one. I'm considering order a BlackCat because my MSI mainboard died while doing a bios flash update. I'm a starter in this kind of things, so any help will be welcome.

I have a MSI P67A-GD65, I've been looking for compatible devices to reprogram the bios chip as I cannot recover it with its standard procedure (ctrl+home). The bios chip says it is a E7681 IMS190 and I couldn't find any remarkable information about it. I wanted to ask you if I'll be able to fix this bios using BlackCat.

Thank you and regards.

Dear FerK, i have not yet managed to reprogram a msi board with, a blackcat, and i tell you i´ve tried a Long time. I think the better way would be to let msi themselves do the Job, here in Germany that Service is 25 Euro and you won´t have the stress of buying blackcat and soldering cable, and trying over and over
