MSI Eclipse MS-7520 Ver. 1.1

Thanks, I think it will take me a day to set up which computer I will be using and make up some kind of connection for the experiment.

The software and driver for the BlackCat is loaded and the BlackCat seems to be ready. I went to load my rom file but it is looking for a .hex file. Is there a conversion program in the software of do you have a suggested program for that? Once I load the hex file, will there be a choice to program the connected chip?

When you start the BCUSB software it may be asking for the specific .hex file for your choice , ie. SPI ,EJTAG or NAND , now you have to select the SPI.hex file BCUSB.3.04.SPI located in your firmware folder and load that , this will put the BCUSB in SPI mode then we need to see if it detects the Bios chip.

Ok, I have status, console and spiflash tabs up now. How do you direct it to load my rom file and how can I tell if my connections are correct to the spiflash on the motherboard?

On the Main tab do you see a connection ? does it show a flash , post a copy of the console log so i can see .

Is there a way to copy the info from the screen that I am missing? I can't right click and do a copy. I will wright everything down but was hopeing for an easy way. Status shows connected (I assume to the blackcat board), device mode is SPI, Board firmware is ver 3.04, connected to device spi compatible device (Nordic spi port), Flash memory size: 16,384 bytes and flash memory name is Main Flashblock. I will go wright down the console log but it only shows clearing the AVR and successfully wrighting the SPI file. I do not see any mention of the 25L320 item. Should I have both switches in the on position for the Black cat?

In the console tab there is a small notebook icon on the bottom right , if you click that it will save the console log

Also verify for me in the settings tab on top if the SPI nRF24LE1 mode is unticked .

The edit functon seems to time out from the States here so I couldn't change it. Here is the log:

Yes uncheck it and check the software again , as there is no proper detection to this device

No flash detected. I know my connections are tentative and will spend some time trying to establish better contact. I didn't want to actually solder to the pins but I don't think my simple contact method is working.

It may not just be your connections as we have not had 100% confirmation from anyone regarding a successful detection. I have asked the developer for some insight to this and he mentioned he did have some boards he was going to test on ( not the exact same model as yours) , but as they all seem to have a similar connection layout , hopefully he can find the missing link so to speak ...

Well, actually it rings out as a connection for each wire from the spi1 header on the motherboard to the approiate pin on the BlackCat 10 pin header.

Both of my switches on the BlackCat are to the left or "on" position and my voltage jumper is on 3.3V.

Try with the VCC on 5v , i am just curious , as it may need more power to it . Dont worry about the position of the dip switches not really relevant in most cases.

Still no luck with 5V but I did notice that I see a grayed out removable E (drive letter) device when you go to eject USB devices. Here is the new log:
LibUsbDotNet version: 2.2.8.104
BlackcatUSB Script Engine build: 202
Welcome to BlackcatUSB interfacing software, build: 326
Running on: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (32 bit)

Unable to connect to compatible SPI device

One more thing i would like you try if possable , try connecting your HOLD to the VCC and see if you get a detection , i want to see if it being in Situe will have any effect on it similar to it being removed from the board

I know you told me hold was to be connected when the spi flash chip was disconnected from the mother board and I didn't ask any more questions but now I would like to know where the hold pin is?
