What's the use of an ISP point ?

A lot of modems need an ISP point.

What is this and how can you trace it back to find it ?

isn't it just possible to put VCC on the chip itself ?

Modems /routers that require an ISP point is so that you can flash it in situe. Each device has a different ISP point and some are relatively hard to find. If you are unsure of how to find such a point, your best option will be to add the required voltage to the VCC pin on the SPI chip
