PCB 1.4

Hi d3m0n,

My Blackcat USB is PCB1.4 purchased from TCNISO. Which version is suitable for this hardware if I would like to flash the SB6120? Could the PCB 1.4 be too old to flash the SB6120?

My computer can't detect this hardware any more after I flashed my modem with forceware. I have tried to reboot my computer, but in vain. My computer can detect other USB drive, but this Blackcat USB can't. When I connect it with my computer, only Red light is on. The Blackcat USB software shows "not connected". Is my Blackcat USB damaged?

BCUSB v1.2 upwards is capable of SPI flashing . If you set the switches on your bcusb to Bootloader mode and press the reset switch does your pc see the device ?
It is possable the bcusb is damaged , but there could be others things we need to check first , like board firmware and if you have the latest drivers installed . I know a lot of people used there bcusb's to modify there ps3's , therefore having that firmware on the bcusb will render it unrecognizable by a pc .

Can you see the bcusb in your device manager at all ?

I can't see this hardware in device manager. I tried to switch to Bootloader mode and pressed the rest switch, but it doesn't work.

In the beginning, the software showed that I need to update the firmware for SPI mode; hence, I used the the firmware "BCUSB.1.09.SPI" and the driver which are going with the software build 271. Unlike other USB flash drive, my bcusb can't be recognizeable by my pc.

When I tried to flash my SB6120, I can't see "Motorola SB6120" tab in the bcusb software. So, I just went to SPI Flash tab to write my firmware. This process was well completed. After that, my SB6120 still can't work., and only three lights are on.

Power off
Receive solid blue
Send solid blue
Online off
Link solid blue
Has my modem been damaged? or it is just bricked and need to be reflashed?
Should I purchase another bcusb with higher pcb version?

Thanks a lot!!!

It's me Paul, Hey D3m0n. You don't flash the spi flash tab with the firmware. You let the BCUSB read that and save it, that will be your back up and hold your mac and valid certs for that mac. You then hit the script tab at the top and choose the 6220 or which script you prefer. then you will have the tab for the modem for the firmware install. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, kind of busy here at work. I have to flash a 6120 tonight and I will do it step by step and post a link to it here. I will start with the BCUSB in the shipped jtag mode and all. I might have it finished by 2am my time.

If your PC does not see the BCUSB device then it could be damages ,,, you have an option here where you could re-flow the chip on the bcusb and see if that works , or alternatively you could purchase another programmer albeit a BCUSB or USBJTAGNT

Hi D3m0n,

I don't see any download link at EmbeddedComputers.net for re-flow the BCUSB. Do you have that software?

Apologies for the late reply , i am working away from home at the moment and my time is limited..

To re-flow the chip you will not find any software that does that , you need to apply heat to the chip (not too much or you will damage other components) ,, just enough to let the solder re-flow around the legs.
Search " Chip Reflow" on you tube and you will get an idea of what i am on about.

I find the difference between PCB1.4 and 1.8.

PCB1.8 has the jumper for the user to select the voltage; however, the PCB1.4 doesn't.

The VCC selector came out in V1.7 , it has been useful in some cases , but i find that most devices still work with the 5v setting.
