FlashcatUSB (Version2.1)

Latest version of hardware now being used. http://www.embeddedcomputers.net/products/FlashcatUSB/

Similar to 2.0, this includes the SWITCH to change voltage instead of using a jumper. The board now includes the voltage regulator, so the top two pins (GND/VCC), are supplied by that. That makes programming the Spansions work better. The output is 3v or 5v @ 100ma. The back of the board includes a SMD header with GND 1.8v 3.3v and 5v. So you can use those to get additional power connections.

 nice!!!

I take it when you fill out the order on the website ($29.99) its assuming that you want v2.1?

Because I do not see a separate order form for v1.8/v2.1 like it had before

Yes i think that is the case now , I have no affiliation with any sales of this product , but as this product is now the latest i assume this is what will be sold .
You could always use the contact form on embeddedcomputers and verify with them.

Yes, I can confirm that all new orders on their website are receiving PCB 2.1.

As the layout of the pins is now altered on JTAG on v2.1 , the connection will now be as follows

connection to a modem (SB5100) looks like this

Hello;

i m looking for help. maybe i have a defective unit but i cannot read my sb5101 . it wont detect the modem. i am using the latest software and drivers but no luck.
can someone please help?

thank you in advance.

Connect devices (correctly,) make sure both are powered off, power on modem (wait 30 secs,) power on fcusb, run application (should detect now)

P.S. make sure you have programmed the board with the correct avr firmware

well, I see there's 3 hexes included in the firmware pcb 2.1x folder..i chose the FCUSB.7.06.EJTAG.hex..not unless I have to chose from the remaining 2.

oh, I think I'm finally getting it.. they say the new board 2.1 has been altered which affects the way to connect to modem..i think that's my problem

So, the V2.1 board has the same MCU as the V1.8. The firmware for V2.1 should work for the V1.8, provided you don't connect a 1.8 V target chip. I will dig more into this matter.

Do you want to replace firmware ? Set the number 2 little switch to the opposite position (see manual), unplug and replug the FlashCat (you might try reset it). The software should display Device Mode : Device Firmware Update (DFU). Then click AVR Firmware and load the firmware you need (JTAG / SPI / NAND), then click Program, then Start Application. It is advisable to disconnect the FlashCat, set the switch back to its previous position and reconnect. The FlashCat software should redetect the board in the mode you just loaded.

If you wanted to change the BCS or FCS script, that's even easier, but it should detect and load by itself the appropiate script.

What are you trying to do ?? Load firmware or modify a script ??

read the modem..ive been trying for 2 months on and off...lol!! seriously. I've tried so many things. why am I trying to read the modem? pm me and I will tell you why..

First you wish to change the script. OK, you've got an answer. You don't mention if the steps in the answer helped you or not. Then you mention that you want to read the modem. What kind of modem ? A Motorola surfboard ? What model ? That means you need JTAG firmware. Maybe if you post the log that FlashCat software lists in the Console tab, you would get more precise answers.
Needless to say, this is a topic referring to the board itself, not the separate cases of users. Admin should wait for a relevant answer that helps you and if it worked for you, admin should move the thread in a separate topic, named after the modem, so all users would know what to do.
It's not impossible that your board doesn't work correctly. It would help if you have another Broadcom device, a router for example, and test the board on it.
FlashCat was designed with Motorola Surfboards modem in mind, so it that doesn't work, it may be a bigger problem. Try one solution at a time and take a note of what does and what doesn't work.
