sb6120 wire connections

I knew i would have issues with this lol but that's what makes it fun. i don't wanna fry this thing so i need help on the wiring. on wiring for a typical SO-16 it shows hold (1) and vcc (2) connected to the wire that feeds from R362 (c508 for me) . yet on other schematics they are not connected to 1 nor 2 on the chip. when i try to connect i get either no device found or the message in this log. if anyone can point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it. on a side note i am getting pretty good at soldering lol. i can tell this hobby is gonna keep me busy learning and i like that!!

i also guess since my board is different the r271 and r272 does not exist any more?

Only reason VCC and Hold are connected together was if the SPI flash was lifted off the board , that is how you would need to connect it , but as you are doing ISP there is no need to connect Hold.

Is your pinout according to the layout in the BCUSB manual for SPI , correct ? ( Reason i ask is that your numbering is back to front)

When you power the modem on with BCUSB connected are any LED's visable on the modem or are they all off ?

I am unsure of the r271/272 points , i can only assume this is what is marked for your serial connection ? if so i believe these were removed in newer models.

sorry about replying in the email notice last night i was half asleep, ill post it here in case someone else needs the info.

My pin out in the bcusb could be backwards. I thought with the cable facing you and the clip on the top that it was number one on the upper left side. The the entire bottom row was ground. All of the leds are off. I can boot the modem up fine and log into the factory panel. So its not dead quite yet lol

D3mom's reply:
Just verify with the manual if you have it the correct way , i am trying to visualize how you have it , IF you have the usb connector toward your body and the pin header on the opposite end the your layout is correct , numbering still wrong but irrelevant .

there is a small drawing of how it is connected currently attached below.

So i am assuming your bcusb is setup like this according to your diagram

So your Pin 1 on your diagram is VCC on mine correct ?

i wanna make sure i am on the same page as you. looking at that layout , you just impose it over the black cat. so the ground would actually be on the row closest to the ATMEL chip correct?

Correct , the whole backrow closest to the Atmega chip is your GND

it's official now, i am a retard. first i had the chip turned around in my drawing i had on paper. when it got to the 8th pin i went straight across to 16 pin and it would actually be pin 9. so i had drawn that side of the flash chip backwards. so i re-soldered my wires correctly and tested it. i first used the R362 with nothing to show for it, then i jumped straight to the number 2 pin and powered it. still nothing. yep i am sucking at this one. 2012-01-08_10-53-32_757.jpg2012-01-08_11-00-09_482.jpg2012-01-08_11-00-09_482.jpg2012-01-08_10-54-37_154.jpg

i'll post my stupid mistakes, maybe it will help someone else. oh yeah here is a pic of those other 2 locations i was referring to

Looking at the pic of your pin header with the wires , they should be changed , put the bottom ones on the top and the top on the bottom . Also remember these wires cannot be of an excessive length

ok i switched that out and trimmed down my wires some and here is the log i get. i also tried to power it both ways, number 2 pin and r362

Ok , there is something we are missing here . Try this using ISP point only for now.
1. BCUSB disconnected from modem
2. Power on modem until you see modem boot as it should.
3. Power off modem.
4. Connect BCUSB to modem
5. Power on modem (All LED's should be OFF)
6. Start software, if no detection , click main tab and press detect device a few times
7. Let me know what it says in console if there is no detection

ok here ya go. something did change

Ok the Jedec ID is not correct , So now try it with 3v to pin 2 and see if you get the same

Also can you get me a full view pic of your bcusb connected to the modem

here is another log where the jedec changes and the spi mode changes on it's on.

The SPI mode will change if the connection is not correct as it is seeing different things and trying to correct itself.
Post a full length pic of your setup , so i can see what it looks like please.

i have to run to my parents for lunch (every sunday thing) but i'll be back soon. ill see your posts on the phone.

Holy shit ,, those wires are wayyyyyyy to long , you need to shorten them by a shitload . The wires need to be roughly 5-10cm long
